On their way home, they make a stop in Paris. Victor receives a letter from Elizabeth, and she asks him if he is in love with someone else. Victor assures Elizabeth that she is the only woman he is in love with and she is the only thing that makes him happy. Victor is reminded that the monster threatened to show up for revenge on his wedding night. He plans to fight back when the monster shows up, and whether he wins or loses, he is just glad that his misery will finally come to an end. Victor and Alphonse return home and begin planning the wedding ceremony. Elizabeth is still worried because she can tell something is wrong with Victor, but he explains to her that everything will be alright after the wedding. He tells her that he is a very big and terrible secret, but he cannot tell her about it until after they are married. As the wedding day nears, Victor becomes more and more nervous. The wedding day finally approaches, and after they get married, Victor and Elizabeth spend the night in the family's cottage.
Brevin's Commentary:
As I write this, I'm too tired to make any sort of comment on the fact that Victor is marrying his adoptive sister, so I'll just move on. This really seems like a romance novel right now, with Elizabeth fearing that Victor is in love with somebody else, and he has to assure her that he only loves her. And another cliche to add is the fact that this all occurs in Paris, the city of love. Victor is afraid that his monster is going to make good on his promise and show up on his wedding night and ruin everything, and as the wedding approaches, he begins to get nervous. I feel for him, because if I had a tall, muscular, murderous stalker talking about seeing me and my wife on our wedding night, I'd be pretty concerned too. He does get the girl, and I honestly hope that everything works out for him, although judging from the letters, I don't think that it's all going to be rainbows and sunshine.
