Victor and Elizabeth go on a walk together one evening, but the thought of the monster appearing consumes Victor's mind. He is nervous that Elizabeth will be disappointed at the fight between him and the monster. Victor tells Elizabeth to relax and spend the rest of her night inside, and he goes on a search for the monster so he can get it all over with. He searches the house in an attempt to find the monster. He hears Elizabeth's scream; the monster killed her. He now comes to the realization that the monster wasn't planning to kill him all along; he wanted to kill all of those close to him. He is overwhelmed with sadness and returns home to tell his father the bad news. But sadly, his father, Alphonse, also dies a few days later. Victor finally decides to come clean about the monster and convince the judge that the monster is the one that is responsible for all of the murders. The judge remains unconvinced of this story, and Victor devotes the rest of his life to trying to find and destroy the monster.
Brevin's Commentary:
Well, I was right, no happily ever after for Victor and his new bride. I know I should feel bad for this guy, because his neglect due to the fear of the monster he created has now ended the life of five people, and dramatically changed the life of many more, but it's really hard to. Victor reminds me of a neglectful father, one that never supported him or came to anything that was important to him, like his Little League games or something. Now he's getting mad at his son for misbehaving when he was never there to help him learn right from wrong, so the monster got mixed up in a rough crowd that hated him and made him angry. Now, he is getting revenge on his dad or creator, which is resulting in these murders.
