This chapter started with a letter from Victor's father that surprisingly says that Victor's younger brother William has died. Victor was so shocked that he immediately left the university to go back to his hometown of Geneva where his grieving family was. By the time he gets to Geneva it's dark and the gates are shut. Since the gates are closed he decides to walk in the woods around the town.
Map of Geneva Switzerland
As Victor was walking he sound the spot where his brother passed away, then spotted the monster lurking in the shadow. This convinced Victor that the creature was responsible for the killing of his brother.
The next day Victor learned that Justine was the person that was said to be responsible for the death of William. Justine was the suspect because a picture that William had when he was killed was found in Justine's possession. Despite this, Victor still believes that the monster is the killer, but doesn't tell anybody because he thinks that they'd think he is crazy.
Destiny's Thoughts/Comments This chapter was very shocking to me. If the monster was going to kill anyone, I thought he was going to only kill Victor, not his youngest brother. I was also shocked that Justine was accused for the murder of William, and Victor didn't stand up for her and open up about the monster. If I was in Victor's shoes, I would have told everyone about the monster and explain that the monster was the one responsible for my little brother's death. This way, my family member wouldn't have to pay the consequences for a crime they were falsely accused of, and the monster would be brought to justice.
