After a couple years of working on this project Victor finally finishes bringing the inanimate corpse to life, an the horror that beheld him. The corpse that he gave life Victor said to had been ugly before he gave it life, but with it standing upright and moving had been terrifying something that Dante from Dante's inferno could have possibly conceived in the pits of hell. Terrified he ran out of his room and into the apartment's courtyard where he remained all night. The next morning Victor went to walk around town, stopping at the nearby inn seeing new carriages arrive in the town. The new arrival in town turned out to be Henry Clerval, with this Victor became relieved a bit., but in reality Victor was very sick as he had worked exhaustively towards one goal for two years and at the end of that goal regretted those two years. With the arrival of Henry came the questioning of Victors well being as the contact between him and his family suffered. Henry had gone there to study the works of literature after his father finally let him go, but on the arrival he knew something was wrong with Victor. Henry then spent much of the following winter being a nurse to Victor to help him be rid of his illness. During Victors recovery he receives letters from his family, who worries about his contact as Henry writes for Victor.

Brevin's Commentary:
This was by far my favorite chapter of the book so far. I think that Mary did a great job of setting the scene or the monsters awakening, then the horror that Victor encountered. I still don't understand why Victor was so scared of his creation though. He assembled the monster piece by piece, ending in the construction of a body that, although ugly, was able to perform basic tasks. If he had built this thing, surely he would have seen it before, and then there wouldn't be a reason to be scared, unless he wasn't aware of how tall he had made the creature. I guess that it might have been the skin that was stretched so tight, or maybe the yellow eye, but there never really was a good explanation that explained why Victor was so scared. I know that I'd be scared if I created a life, but not at the appearance, but rather how it had come to life.
